Health Visitors and what they do

Health Visitors are trained nurses who have been additionally qualified.

Although concerned with all age groups, they have a special responsibility for the under-fives.
New-born babies are visited at home and parents advised on child health and development. They encourage attendance at child health clinics and offer post-natal sessions.

The health visitors are also concerned with single parents and families under stress, the elderly, the physically and mentally handicapped.

Midwives and their Role
Midwives have a central role in the care of pregnancy.

They are fully-trained nurses who have also qualified, after specialized training, as midwives.
They are key members of the team associated with ante-natal and post-natal care, running ante-natal clinics at Sevenoaks Hospital and caring for mothers and babies at home following discharge from hospital.
